Why Newton buys kiln-dried hardwood

Newton is a federation of 13 distinct villages around Boston College and the inner Charles River loop. Housing stock is exceptional: large Victorian and shingle-style estates in Newton Centre and Chestnut Hill, post-Civil-War colonials in Auburndale and Waban, mid-century moderns scattered through Newton Highlands, and architect-designed contemporaries in Newton Corner and Nonantum. Median household income tops $170k, with the Chestnut Hill and Brookline corridors pushing past $200k. Almost every detached home has at least one working fireplace.

Brookline shares the housing profile: Beacon Street Edwardians, Coolidge Corner brownstones, and Chestnut Hill Reservation estates. Wellesley adds suburban estate density off Wellesley College and along Cliff Road. Combined, the cluster supports thousands of working fireplaces and a notable backyard wood-fired pizza oven scene that consumes Mega Bags through summer baking season.

Massachusetts and regional quarantine context

Massachusetts is part of the regional spotted lanternfly (SLF) and emerald ash borer (EAB) quarantine network. MA Department of Agricultural Resources prohibits moving untreated firewood across state lines or between certain MA counties. Our USDA APHIS phytosanitary certificate ships with every order, which is the only legal way to move firewood from Boston up to a New Hampshire ski cabin, a Vermont weekend house, a Maine lake place, or a Cape Cod summer home.
